It’s made through a hot-rolling process while the steel is still molten, then it’s allowed to cool and harden. A simple example shows its capacity, a 1-inch round bar, properly fixed to supports, can hold about 20 tons.
Because structural steel is thicker and heavier than light-gauge steel (LGS), it calls for strong fastening methods. Welding, bolting, and riveting are common choices, based on the design and field conditions.
